Monarch Mountain Meditation

The Buddhist Path to Happiness & Love
with  Robert Beatty

            7 days     (September 19-25)

The Buddha taught that our essential nature is wise, loving, and joyful. The key lies in self-awareness. Buddhist psychology and meditation practices, proven over 2500 years, provide skills to set you free from anxiety, depression, self-doubt, fear, and loneliness. Learn mindfulness meditation, which can be applied in every activity of your life. A revolutionary way of being no longer tied to moods, the racing mind, compulsions, or scripts from the past allows you to face and overcome your deepest fears, forgive others, and love yourself. Suffering diminishes over time as you learn to quiet your mind, observe and release difficult states.

This retreat is suitable for newcomers to meditation and to experienced practitioners. Individual guidance will be available to each participant.

Robert Beatty and partner Nancy Turner at Atlin Lake In sitting and walking meditation, talks and discussions, music and movement, and sacred silence, a loving community develops safety to open to your deepest truth. Return to your life and relationships rested, renewed, and inspired.

There is no instructor fee for this retreat. Donations may be made to the teacher.

These will give you a good idea of Robert´s style as a meditation teacher.

Location

We have found that the ideal venue to hold this retreat is the Atin Art Centre, which is situated above scenic Atlin Lake on the flank of Monarch Mountain, just outside of Atlin, B.C. The Centre encompasses 15 acres of land, and borders on thousands of acres of pristine wilderness. To reach the Centre drive to Atlin from Whitehorse (roughly 2 hours), and then follow the Warm Bay road for a few kilometres beyond the Pine Creek bridge. The road to the Centre is well marked, and is located shortly before you reach the parking area for the Monarch Mountain trailhead. Follow the road to the end.

Accommodation

Atlin Lake retreat accommodation includes one residence building (for 12 people) and 3 wall tents. The residence building includes 3 separate units, each unit with a kitchen, dining and living area, with adjoining sleeping room (2 bunk beds). The wall tents sleep 3 to 4. There is also space for  a few personal tents (you need to bring your own camp stove and cooler),  as well as  campers or vans.  Let me know on your registration if you have any preference for room/tent mates.
We will be using the Art Centre artists studio as our meditation space which can sit 20 to 25 people comfortably. The residence units, as well as the  “meditation “studio’ are all equiped with wood stoves, and the wall tents have propane  heaters.  On site there is  also a wood fired sauna and  a wood fired hot tub.

What to Bring

In addition to the obvious (ie. clothes, toiletries, towel, etc) bring:
    1. Meditation mat, cushions or stool, blanket
    2. Bathing suit (if you intend to use the sauna or hot tub and prefer to be covered)
    3. Sleeping bag or blankets
    4. Sturdy footwear if you plan to hike the  Monarch mountain trail
    5. Warm clothes (winds coming off the Llewellen Glacier and Atlin Lake can be quite cool. ;Come prepared for cool windy weather as well as warm spring sunhine.) We are intending to hold some walking meditation sessions outside.
    6. Breakfast food. There are fridges and cooking facilities available in each unit of the residence building. Wall tents have gas burners.
